2015 Coach Rush was elected as a Region 3 Director for The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association

Coach Rush took over as head coach of the Tomball Cougars baseball program in the summer of 2011. In five seasons as the Tomball coach the Cougars have posted a 141-43 record.  The 2012 team advanced farther than any team in Tomball history posting a 27-10 record and advancing all the way to the regional semi-finals.  The 2013 team shattered all records by posting a 35-4 record while winning the Texas High School 4A State Championship!  This was the first state championship for any team sport in Tomball history.  The team also finished with a top ten national ranking.  Coach Rush was named Texas Sports Writers 4A Coach of the Year for the state of Texas in 2013.  Coach Rush was also named the 22-4A district coach of the year.  The 2014 team finished 27-7 and won a second straight district championship going 13-1 in district.  The Cougars won bi-district and lost in game 3 of the area round on a walk off home run.  Coach Rush was once again named district coach of the year.  In addition to that Coach Rush was honored to be nominated to coach the South All Stars in the 2014 4a-5a Texas High School All Star Game played at Dell Diamond in June.  The South won the game 6-2. The 2015 team went back to the state tournament while posting a 25-13 record.  They won bi-district, area, regional quarter finals, regional semi-finals and the region III championship before being eliminated in the opening round of the state tournament by eventual state champion Prosper. Coach Rush was named the Houston Area Baseball Coaches 5a Coach of the year. The 2016 team won district and lost in the regional finals one game away from the state tournament.  Rush was named district co-coach of the year.   In 2015, Rush was elected as a Region 3 Director for The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. 

Rush is a 1981 graduate of Denton High School where he was a pitcher and outfielder and a 1986 graduate of North Texas State University where he was a four year starting pitcher on the baseball team. Rush also earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Houston. After college Rush was a varsity assistant at his alma mater Denton High School for seven seasons. From there he became the pitching coach at Lee College and then began a high school head coaching career that has included stops at Killeen Ellison High School, Waller High School, Spring High School, and now Tomball High School. During his coaching career Rush has been part of several teams that have made deep runs into the play-offs and has coached many players that have gone on to play at the college and professional level. Coach Rush feels very blessed to be part of the Tomball baseball tradition. Rush's wife Sara works as an assistant principal at Tomball Junior High School.   They have 3 children. Jordan,29, is a teacher at Magnolia Junior High and married to Marka, who teaches at Tomball Intermediate School. , Haley, 26, is a news reporter in Albuquerque and is married to Paul, a CPA.  Nolan, 7 is a 1st grade student in Tomball ISD and aspires to be a future Cougar.  Coach Rush's mom and dad live in Tomball where his dad is the minister at The Presbyterian Church in Tomball.

Varsity Assistant Coach: Joe Heckathorn

Coach Heckathorn graduated from Tarkington High School in 1997 and went to Kansas Wesleyan University to play football and baseball 
for two years then transferred to Sul Ross State University where he played baseball for his remaining 2 years earning team captain 
honors his senior year. Earned his bachelors in Kinesiology in 2001 from Sul Ross, and his Masters in Education in 2009 from Lamar 
University. He has been teaching and coaching for 16 years with the last 6 being here at Tomball. He was a part of the 2013 State 
Championship staff, and this is his 3rd year as varsity assistant. He has 2 children Gehrig (10) and Sofia (7) and a beautiful wife 
Jenny who is the math specialist at Rosehill Elementary, and who he has been married to for 14 years. He enjoys sports, fishing, 
spending time with his family, and traveling.

Varsity Assistant Coach:  Brooks Allan

Brooks Allan- This is my 20th year  teaching and coaching at TISD. I am a 1989 graduate of Tomball High School where I played football and baseball. I received my college degree from Sam Houston State University. I have coached baseball and softball at the High School and I’m currently the head boys coach at Tomball Junior High, where I teach PE and coach 8th grade football and 7th grade basketball. I am married and have two boys, Morgan and Jacob who is a 2016 Tomball High School  graduate.  All I ask of my athletes is to give 100% of their ability and that the team comes first.

J.V. Coach:  Michael Valdez

Coach Valdez graduated from Cy-Springs High School in 2007 and went to Ranger Junior College and Odessa College to play baseball. He then Transferred to Sam Houston State University and earned his bachelors in Kinesiology in 2014. He has been teaching and coaching for 3 years, all at Tomball High School. He was part of the Final Four team in 2015 and the Elite Eight team from 2016. This is his first year coaching the Junior varsity. While earning his degree he met his beautiful wife Courtney. She is a 6th grade math teacher at Bleyl Middle School in the Cy-Fair District. They were married in October of 2014 and together have a gorgeous daughter named Rylie Capri (4) and are expecting her baby sister
Charleigh Marie this summer! He enjoys fishing, grilling, and hanging out with his family as much as possible.

Coach Cortez is enjoying his first year at Tomball High School  as a volunteer assistant in the baseball program.  Coach Cortez spent the past 10 years coaching baseball at College Park High School in The Woodlands, and coached cross country and football as well.  Prior to that, he began his high school baseball coaching career at Spring High School where he worked with Coach Rush for one season.  Coach Cortez graduated from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, and is currently in his 18th year of teaching.  His wife, Stacey, is also a teacher in Conroe I.S.D. and they have an 11-year old daughter, Cate, and a 6-year old son, Jace.
